Nick Alan
Nicholas Alan, formerly a Television and Film Agent in NYC and Los Angeles, co-owned The Tamarind Theatre in the heart of Hollywood for nearly two decades. Currently, still well known for its artistic venue, it has now become the new home of The UCB Theatre/Hollywood. Previously he was directing and producing beauty pageants under Miss Universe, Inc. until his Miss New York / USA padded her bra, getting disqualified from the competition and truly generating worldwide media coverage over the POPE being shot! That incident gave CBS their highest “pageant” TV ratings and Nick more than 15 minutes of international fame, not to mention, it also landed itself as a question in the classic game Trivial Pursuit.
Nonetheless, his 30-year entertainment experiences have afforded him to become quite multi-dimensional. Nick, who was also a Theatrical and Fashion Photographer, was regarded as LA’s Top Photographers in one of the best sellers “How to be a Working Actor”, written by Mari Lyn Henry, the former head of ABC’s Daytime Casting. He is currently engaged in the creative management of various multitalented actors and singers, as well as, creating various comedic television and film projects that are currently being developed.
As co-owner of the Tamarind Theatre, Nick was also able to write, direct, produce, and/or develop award-winning, equity wavier, theatrical productions along with his creative partner and co-owner Thomas Kendall. Many of these productions moved on to larger venues, which have included Off-Broadway, television, and accredited independent films.
In as much as Nick has been featured on Entertainment Tonight and HGTV’S House Hunters, he also co-hosted a syndicated talk show Putting on the Ritz. The Tamarind Theatre had also been featured on Entertainment Tonight, as well as, The Tonight Show, David Letterman, Extra, The Today Show, and People Magazine. Many co-productions produced by The Tamarind Theatre received several “Critics Choice” awards from the LA Times, as well as, other awards from LA Weekly, Drama-Logue, Backstage West, NAACP, the Governor’s Media Access Award, as well as a Theatre Arts Award from the Hollywood Arts Council. The Tamarind was also frequently seen and featured in the HBO series “Unscripted”, produced by the Academy Award-winning Actor/Director, George Clooney.
Nick will forever be indebted and grateful to his NYC mentor, Stephen Draper (Broadway Theatrical Agent), who discovered Geraldine Page and Richard Kiley, as well as Kingsley Colton (Hollywood Agent and founder of The Kingsley Colton Agency) most known for representing Television and Film stars that ranged from Gloria Swanson, Irene Ryan, John Derek, to Loni Anderson. Beverly Hecht (of the Beverly Hecht Agency) initially representing Debra Wringer and Brad Garrett, and iconic Manager Bob LeMond, mostly known for discovering and representing John Travolta, Patrick Swayze, and Jon-Erik Hexum. All in all, gaining their mentorship, knowledge, and wisdom, taught Nick what real representation and respect for talent, truly affords you in the Entertainment Industry.
At the same time, wishing to thank Jennifer Grey (Star of Dirty Dancing) for training him to be a waiter in NYC’s infamous and memorable restaurant The Saloon, across from Lincoln Center whereby he lasted approximately one night. ironically remembering his last table being Mike Wallace, for which he still claims may have jinxed him within 60 Minutes!
In regards to all of his endeavors, along with partner Tom Kendall, they are still enjoying creating live Stage Productions and Executive Producing other various shows currently appearing in Las Vegas, with expectations of Miami and Los Angeles.
