Tom Kendall

Tom Kendall has been in the Entertainment Industry for thirty years. He received fine art degrees from The University of Evansville, Indiana, and the FSU/Asolo Conservatory in Sarasota, Florida. In between attending the Juilliard School in NYC.

His extensive background in theatre involved founding and owning the Tamarind Theatre for nearly 20 years, currently known as UCB (Upright Citizens Brigade). While owning the Tamarind he produced over 250 plays and musicals. Throughout his tenure, he worked with such theatre notables as Sir John Neville, Charles Nelson Reilly, Ron Glass, Paige O’Hara, George Furth, Ben Stiller, Hattie Winston, Sanaa Lathan, John Cusack, Charles Busch, Nora Dunn, Richard Kline, Will Ferrell and Jane Lynch among others.

Tom, as a producer, was responsible for the development of Kathy Buckley’s one-woman show, “Don’t Buck with Me!” which played the famed Tiffany Theatre, co-producing later with David Hyde Pierce, in the New York off-Broadway run at the Lamb’s Theatre. Other original projects were, ”The Right to Remain Silent”(Showtime), Hell Cab (Independent film), It’s All About You (Independent film), “Fixin’ to Die” (Kennedy Center / Off-Broadway), Eden Court (Hahn-Cosmopolitan Theatre) and most recently “The Eyes of Babylon”, (Showtime documentary – “Semper fi”).

Tom has been the recipient of the Governor’s Media Access Award, the Los Angeles City Council Certificate of Merit, the LA Weekly award, the Theatre LA Ovation award, and most recently the NAACP award for Best Director of a Musical. The musical, “Hey! I’m the Mama!” starring Jazz legend Spanky Wilson and her daughter, Angela Teek, was initially developed for Las Vegas.

In 2001, Tom joined the staff of Encore Hollywood, a post-production house, as a producer for television, film, commercials, and music video visual effects. He became EVP of VFX for Deluxe worldwide in 2007, responsible for shows such as House, My Name is Earl, Entourage, Big Love, Huff, Medical Investigation, Heartland, Charmed, Supergirl, The Flash, and The River among others. While at Encore/Deluxe his team won the Emmy for Supporting Visual Effects for the Cinemax show “Banshee”. In addition, Tom was instrumental in helping women break ground to be the first woman to win an academy award for best director in a major motion Picture, Kathryn Bigelow for The Hurt Locker.

Tom then undertook the position of President of VFX after co-founding Picture Shop, an industry-leading post-production facility. Their shows included Hawaii Five-0, MacGyver, Magnum PI, NCIS, The Walking Dead, Charmed, New Amsterdam, Grand Hotel, NCIS: NOLA, and American Housewife among others.

In 2019, Kendall then became president of Ghost VFX after the company was acquired by Picture Shop VFX. In this role, he oversaw the integration of the two companies and led Ghost VFX to new heights (today, as part of Streamland Media, this has become the largest post-production(s) facility in the world).

Under Kendall's leadership, Ghost VFX won numerous awards for its work in television including an Emmy for Star Trek: Discovery. Other projects included The Mandalorian, The Walking Dead, as well as Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

In addition to his work with Ghost VFX and Streamland Media, Kendall is also a member of the Visual Effects Society (VES) and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Kendall is a highly respected figure in the VFX industry and is known for his leadership, creativity, and technical expertise.
